ATLANTA BLOGGER FRIENDSGIVING

This weekend I attended an Atlanta blogger Friendsgiving, and it was such a blast. Friendsgiving is such a fun tradition because it gives you the opportunity to spend time with…

DISCONNECT AND GO ON A PICNIC

This past weekend, Evan and I went on an impromptu picnic to the cemetery across the street. Yep, that’s right, a picnic in a cemetery. We live near the Oakland Cemetery here in Atlanta where many famous southerners are buried, like Margaret Mitchell. It’s not a sterile, sad place though. It’s beautiful and manicured and has benches and flowers and meadows – like a park where you want to spend time. It’s peaceful and lovely, and we can even let Bernie the dog off the leash. I love going here because it’s such a unique Atlanta experience – they host events and concerts here, too!

BELLE MEETS WORLD ON CBS ATLANTA

Last week I had the opportunity to be on TV as a lifestyle expert for the first time, and it was a blast!! I was invited by CBS Atlanta to put together a segment on throwing an “Adult Halloween Party” and to join Kimberley Kennedy on her daily Atlanta Plugged In segment to share my ideas with her and her audience. Halloween is my absolute favorite so I jumped at the chance! Read on for more on the segment and click through this link or the image above to watch my TV debut!

EASY MOSCOW MULES: A SUMMER-TO-FALL COCKTAIl I LOVE

If there is one cocktail that I will transition with the changing seasons, it’s the Moscow Mule. They are light and refreshing in warm weather but have the zingy spice of ginger for fall. I’ve been experimenting with all different kinds over the last month – some with fruit and other spices – but my favorite version is the simplest of them all. It’s just vodka, ginger beer and lime. In fact, I’m drinking one right now as I write this to get in the zone…

VEGAN BRUNCH + FROZEN ROSÉ RECIPES

Chances are you have vegan and vegetarian friends. Chances are you also like brunch and cocktails. So what happens when the two intersect and you have your vegan and vegetarian friends over for brunch and cocktails? MAGIC. I’ve discovered three amazing recipes from Chef ChloeVegan Gretchen, and Real Simple that will ensure you’re a brunch pro, no matter the audience or dietary restriction! The first is a vegan version of Matzo Brei made with silken tofu and almond milk, rather than eggs – it is so good that we cook it at least twice a month. The second is a vegan coffee cake my sister brought to our brunch that was perfectly sweet and moist with a crumbly cinnamon topping, and the third is a Frosé (Frozen Rosé) – that just might make the rest of your summer delightful. You freeze the rosé and mix it with a few more goodies to make a grown-up slushie! Read on for the recipes and for some highlights from our brunch!

HOW TO ADJUST TO A NEW CITY: IDEAS FOR STARTING …

We recently moved to Atlanta, Georgia and are in the process of learning how to adjust to a new city as adults – it’s tough! It’s not that I’ve never moved to a new city before – in fact I moved to Chicago about 4 years ago after moving to New York City about 12 years prior to that, so this isn’t a new gig to me. BUT, each time I do it, I am surprised by how unsettling, lonely, terrifying, exciting, humbling, adventurous and joyous the experience can be – all at the same time. It really runs the gamut of emotions, so you have to go easy on yourself while you adjust. There are several things I’ve learned along the way that I think might be helpful to others who are in the same situation or who are thinking about taking the leap. Read on for my ideas on how to start anew!
