BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

EVERY GAL NEEDS A GREAT HAT

This past Sunday was National Hat Day, and in honor of the day, I went hat shopping! It’s pretty rare one can say she went shopping just for a hat. No one wears hats anymore! But I am a certified hat person. They are the PERFECT cover for a bad hair day and add instant style and chicness to any outfit. Every woman should have at least one fabulous hat, and not just a functional one that keeps you warm on a snow day – a real, beautiful, structured hat.

So wear does one shop for said hat? Well, in Atlanta I recommend Goorin Bros at Ponce City Market as a good starting point. They have a million different styles, colors and sizes, and they even have an accessories bar full of feathers, pins and leather bands you can choose to decorate your new head gear. I was such a sucker for all the extras, and I had such a blast choosing my new hat today. I even purchased a leather band and feather for the tan hat I walked in wearing – it needed something extra to spice it up.

When I walked in, I was immediately drawn to this royal blue beauty with the white leather band. Then came the fun part of picking out feathers and a pin with a little blue jewel in the middle. I am so in love with it, and I’ll wear it often because I wear A LOT of navy blue clothing and a lot of denim. It’s perfect for dressed up looks and for casual jeans day.

How to care for your hat:

  • Store your hats upside down (and preferably in a hat box).
  • Put your hat on and take it off by the brim, NOT by the top to avoid creating a hole wear your skin oils will break down the fabric over time.
  • When traveling, put shirts and dresses on the bottom of your suitcase, then put the hat in upside down, fill it with socks and lay your pants across the top.
  • A little steam from the shower can help a hat re-settle into it’s shape.
  • If your hat is made of brushed wool, use a lint roller (not a hat brush) and DON’T get it wet.
