Well, I did it! I took the plunge and went back to dark hair for the changing seasons. But more importantly, I finally got the chance to wear this gorgeous skirt I snagged on Chic Wish for my cousin’s wedding this weekend!
WHAT I WORE:
- Neon Lights Printed and Pleated Midi-Skirt: (Chic Wish)
- Cream Boat-Neck (Peplum) Top with Gold Flecks: (Banana Republic)
- Navy Snakeskin Wide Belt: (Alice + Olivia, purchased at Crossroads Trading Co.)
- Gold Barely There Sandals: (Steve Madden, purchased at Wasteland, Los Angeles)
- Pink Mini-Bag: (Kate Spade NY)
WHY I WORE IT:
I discovered Chic Wish several months ago. They carry a lot of items that are on-trend or knock-offs of current designer pieces for very low prices. The quality is not the same, of course, but I’m not able to pay a high price for trends, so I prefer to find alternatives – especially for something like a midi-skirt that may only be in style for 1-2 seasons.
- For such a bright print, I wanted a very simple light top to accent the skirt but not to overpower it. A black tee would’ve been too dark for a wedding, but I may try one the next time I wear this out.
- I tried a white crop top t-shirt at first but it was too casual for a wedding. I started to panic since I didn’t have a back-up plan, but I also hadn’t considered this cream-colored top because it has a peplum. Fortunately, it tucked into the flared skirt, so you’d never know! Plus, the boat neck and v-neck back gave the look a retro vibe.
- The top also has a very small gold fleck to it and a gold zipper in the back, which was perfect for matching the gold sandals I wanted to wear. I chose them because the warmth of the gold offsets dark blue/purple so well.
- The blue belt complemented the blue/purple background, as well, and really sealed the deal on the retro look.
- The finishing touches included the little pink bag to match the pink circles in the skirt pattern, as well as a simple gold necklace to pick up the gold sandals.
