Since I covered cranes on Monday, why not stick with the theme and wear these blue birds on this lovely Wednesday? This shirt is handmade and one of a kind! I snagged it in LA for next to nothing. The bright blue color is great for fall and is in line with the jewel tone trend, too.
WHAT I WORE:
- Handmade Bird-Printed, Wide-Sleeved Top: (no brand, purchased at Wasteland, Los Angeles)
- Black Flounced Skirt: (Banana Republic)
- Black Elastic Belt: (American Apparel)
- Black Patent Leather Mary Jane Pumps: (Maiden Lane, purchased on Gilt)
- Black Patent Leather Handbag: (vintage, brand unknown, purchased at A Touch of Vintage)
WHY I WORE IT:
These are very straightforward choices I made today:
- I wanted the shirt to stand out, so I went for all-black everything else.
- I grabbed my stand-by flounced skirt – you’re probably sick of seeing it, but I get so much wear out of it – it makes me feel polished and feminine.
- I then added a black belt to smooth the transition from shirt to skirt so the horizontal break in my middle was not so stark.
- I usually do not match my shoes and my handbag perfectly, but I wanted to feel extra-polished today, so I chose these two accents to wear together, along with a straighter hairstyle. I also thought all black items and simple hair would blend together so that all eyes would be on this top.
- I did not wear any jewelry today. Sometimes I don’t like the way it feels to have my wrists, fingers, neck and ears covered with accessories – they disrupt my energy flows or something!
- As for the top itself, such care was taken in its construction. Take a look at the pics above to see the Mercedes-Benz zipper pull and the reinforced seams. My favorite detail is the wide sleeves and the front darts.
