BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

PANTONE SKIRT – WORK-DAY TO PLAY-NIGHT

With Pantone’s latest announcement of the 2015 color of the year, Marsala, I thought it only appropriate to bust out this incredible skirt by local Chicago designer, Laura Takataka. I’m obsessed with it!

I found this skirt during Chicago’s Fashion Week when I went to a local designer event and found Laura Takataka’s designs. My eye caught it from across the room because I have always – since I was a child – loved anything with all the colors on it. If ever there were a piece of clothing MADE for me, it is this skirt!

What I love about it is that it goes with white tops because of the white background; black tops because of the black writing on the pattern and waistband; and any number of accessories and lipsticks because the colors are bound to be found on the skirt. And let’s talk about the design – a bubble skirt meets a wrap skirt – genius!

I took it from day to night – with a prissy look for the office and a punky look for a date.

A DAY AT WORK: WHITE TOP with VELVET BLAZER and ANKLE-STRAP PUMPS

White boat-neck top: Banana Republic // Black wide belt: brand unknown, purchased at Second Time Around // Ankle-Strap Pumps: Charles Jourdan, purchased at Nordstrom Rack // Velvet blazer: L’Wren Scott for Banana Republic

A NIGHT OUT: BLACK TOP and LEATHER JACKET with BOOTIES

Black leather jacket: Genarra, purchased at Crossroads Trading Co // Black body suit: American Apparel // Black lace-up Booties: Altuzarra for Target

DETAILS

Black cross-body bag: Foley + Corinna // Pink hand-dyed tassel necklace: Coral and Stone // Gold chevron bangle: Giles & Brother // Gold pyramid bangle: Wanderlust + Co. // Gold tassel bracelet with leather python band: E. Kammeyer (c/o)

The details stayed the same across both outfits with the jewelry and the cross-body bag –  all gold and black to match the hardware on both the pumps and the booties, of course (not to mention, the gold dots on the cuff to match the gold dots on the bag)! For night, I did add a fun necklace and pink lipstick to bring out the pink color-squares on the skirt and to bring it up a color-notch!

And in case you’re looking for inspiration, the Pantone Instagram account is my FAVORITE one. So much fun, colorful inspiration for your viewing pleasure with images based on the color of that year, as well as other awesome arrangements of the Pantone Matching System – color nerds unite!!

2014 – Radiant Orchid

2015 – Marsala
