THREE WAYS TO WEAR COWBOY BOOTS – MY VERSION OF FESTIVAL STYLE

cowboy boots with a dress on belle meets world blog

I recently traveled to New Orleans for a long weekend with friends, and I wore one pair of shoes the whole time – cowboy boots! I love wearing these boots when I’m on the go because they are really comfortable and look great with a lot of different items from your wardrobe. Plus, they are perfect for festival season if you’re looking for an alternative to the fringe-hippie trend – you can slog through the mud with these bad boys and still look stylish. So today let’s cover three ways to wear cowboy boots – with a dress, with shorts and with skinny jeans.

These beautiful boots – by Ariat – were a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas two years ago. They are beautiful and still in great shape – just look at the craftsmanship of the leather and the stitching, as well as the construction of the sole and heel! If you’re looking to invest in a great pair of boots that will mold to the shape of your foot and last forever, I highly recommend this brand, and I’ve suggested some other designs below!

WITH A DRESS

When I wear cowboy boots with a dress, I try to choose one that has a similar color in it as the blue/green threading on the boots so that they complement each other – like this tie-dyed, layered dress by Gentle Fawn. They have a great collection of light and airy, festival-ready dresses – and this tie-dyed version is a little hippie without going overboard. When I’m traveling in this look, I also like to throw on a leather jacket and to carry a black bag (Foley & Corinna) to tie the outfit together and add an extra layer.

In New Orleans, the weather was quite humid, so I kept my hair up with a headband each day, and I’d likely do the same thing at a festival. It was easy and really casual, but the black band matched the black boots so I think I got away with it. I also recommend sticking with simply jewelry when sporting a cowboy boots look – they are already pretty attention-grabbing, so a few simple black and gold accessories did the trick for me.

WITH SHORTS

Here’s another idea – why not pair the cowboy boots with shorts (LOFT) and a cute top? I like jean cut-offs, but everyone at the festivals wears them. If you want to look a little different and a touch more urban, I’d go for something in a darker color with finished hems. For the first outfit, I grabbed a black and white top (H&M) to go with the shorts and sunglasses but didn’t bother matching to the boots – they can stand alone in this case.

In the second version of this outfit, the top (Clover Canyon) and boots have similar colors going on in their patterns, so my intention – similar to with the patterned dress above – was for them to complement each other.

WITH JEANS

And finally, for the ultimate in uber-casual travel or festival style, you can just throw them on with skinny jeans and a simple t-shirt (both J.Crew). I threw the leather jacket on with this look for my flight home from New Orleans – I liked that it made it punky yet put-together. I could’ve thrown on a few extra necklaces with this simple look if I was heading to a festival.
