Sometimes, wearing your snow gear is unavoidable, especially when it snows in Chicago. The slush will ruin your favorite shoes and the temps are too low to bare anything at all. So, in this episode of my winter dress up series, I’m embracing the snow boots, the chunky sweaters and the wool hats by layering up and making them part of my going out look. Seriously!
WHAT I WORE:
- Gray Faux Fur and Wool Vest: (LOFT)
- Gray Cowl Neck Sweater: (GAP)
- Silver Fit and Flare Dress: (BB Dakota)
- Silver Wide Belt: (Banana Republic)
- Black Lace Up Snow Boots: (Hunter, purchased on eBay)
- Purple Lipstick: (Illamasqua, ESP)
WHY I WORE IT:
For a fun night out at a bar with friends, I really wanted to wear my shiny dark silver/gray dress with matching belt. The weather was not cooperating, but I was determined. I reached for a gray sweater and my gray furry vest to keep the color palette going and got a little creative with how I wore the pieces together.
- At first I thought I’d try the sweater under the dress, but since it’s pretty thick, I put it on over the dress and then grabbed the belt and put it on top of that to nip in the waist. I liked that it tied the sweater and dress together by linking the two dark silver pieces.
- The vest is one of my go-to winter items to add immediate style and sass, plus an extra layer of warmth. I like that the faux fur is just at the shoulders so that it’s not too bulky all over when I wear it on top of another sweater. The dark gray color over the light gray also provided a slimming effect when viewed from the front, and blended in with the dress when viewed from the back. Plus, the crinkly material of the dress looks similar to the woven pattern on the vest.
- Snow boots were non-negotiable, so I chose winter accessories to match them – black gloves, hat and leggings – plus the chunky knit of the hat and vest were similar, the fur on the gloves and vest mimicked each other, and the leggings were shiny spandex to go with the shiny fabric of the dress (which you can’t really see in photos – alas).
- As for the makeup, I love purple and gray together, so I almost always pair a purple lipstick and eyeliner when I’m wearing a monochromatic gray/silver outfit (like in this Silver + Purple post from the fall).
HOW TO WEAR IT YOURSELF:
Go ahead and give it a try! Own those snow boots like they were made for that dress you’re dying to wear in winter!
XOXO,
Belle
