I love trying new makeup trends each season, but I don’t love breaking the bank to do it. We’ll all be onto something else in a few months, so what’s the point of spending a lot? For these items, I’ll head straight to the drugstore or for the low-end lines at Sephora. The price is right! Two of my favorite looks I’m seeing a lot for summer are bright liners with matching lashes, and a bright pop-of-color lip – not necessarily worn at the same time, though! What I love about these two trends is that most skin tones can find a shade that works for them to pull this off, so they are universal yet unique looks! Read on for how I wear them and which brands I prefer.
I am obsessed with blue right now, so for the bright liner and matching lashes, I chose the Sephora Collection Long-Lasting 12 HR Wear Eye Liner in Fancy Blue and the Sephora Collection Extreme Effect Mascara in Blue. Each item costs $12, giving me this look I’ll wear at least once per week this season for $24. I do recommend a liquid liner for bright colors like this because they stay put and are opaque. A crayon or pencil will work too, but on very hot days they can get a little runny and transfer to your brow bone or other parts of your eye. Also, pencils have more texture than liquids so it could look a little chunky and draw more attention to the application, rather than the overall look. For the mascara, I add at least 2 coats and also coat the top of my lashes too. I’ll tap a little on the lower lashes, as well. I pair it with a light pink gloss – nothing over-the-top on the lips would work with this. The Sephora lines also have purple and green mascaras and liners, so if blue is not your color, you could try one of those instead with the same application principles.
So how do I actually wear blue liner and lashes out in public? I try to wear an outfit that has the bright blue shade somewhere in it – a fun summer floral print is the best way to do this. I found this lovely maxi-dress that has blue accents throughout at H&M when I was building my summer wardrobe last month, and I thought the blue liner would play off the design well. I wore this look out to drinks with a few new friends we’ve made in Atlanta.
For the bright lips, I went straight to the drugstore where I found the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in Fuchsia Flash. I am obsessed with this line, and with pink! This lipstick goes on bright and stays on bright for hours. At $8 a pop, you can’t beat the price for such a long-lasting lipstick. I don’t apply it with a lip liner – it doesn’t need it since it’s so thick and opaque. When I wear a color this bright, I won’t do a lot with my eye makeup – a few coats of mascara is all you need since there is so much going on with your mouth! If pink isn’t your thing, try a bright red or orange shade to pull of this look.
Here’s the real-world application of the bright pink lip. I paired it with a fun sundress I also scored at H&M (I’m on a major budget this summer for clothes!). I like that the pink plays off the bright yellows and greens in the print.
Summer is a great time to play with your looks, so don’t be afraid to give these two trends a try – and send me your pics! I’d love to see how you styled colorful liner and lashes or a bright lip at [email protected] or on the Belle Meets World Facebook page!
XOXO,
Belle
