BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

DECODING ALL THE CURLING IRONS – THERE ARE SO MANY!

There are a ton of different options out there these days for curling and waving your hair, and if you’re not overly-obsessed with hair and makeup like me, figuring out the right wand or iron isn’t that easy or intuitive. Tapered or straight-barelled? Clamped or wand? 1/2″ or 1″ or 1.5″? It’s so confusing! Today I’m sharing my three favorite types and breaking down what each one does so that you don’t have to spend money on a bunch of different things.

LEATHER AND LACE (AND BANGS)

Is this post an ode to a Fleetwood Mac song? No. But would it really be that horrible if it was? No! What this actually is, is a post dedicated to a more sophisticated and modern way to wear lace. Feminine lacy details are everywhere these days with the seemingly endless 90’s resurgence, and almost every woman has a lace dress or top in her wardrobe from some point in her life. Don’t be afraid to pull those items back out!

RECENT DRUGSTORE BEAUTY FINDS

I’m an equal-opportunity beauty junkie. I’ll buy products from all over – be it Sephora or Target – and while I love the personalized department store experience the most, I prefer the price tag of the drugstore, hands down. I bet you do, too! This month I’ve found four products – one makeup, one skin, one hair and one body – under $30 each  that I am loving. All were purchased from either CVS, Target or Walgreens. Read on to learn all about them!

THINNING HAIR SOLUTIONS

So this is an embarrassing topic, but we are going there today because it’s something we women face as we get older. If we don’t talk about it, how are we going to know how to deal with it?! A good friend recently took a few photographs of me and my fiance and because I am my own worst critic, all I could focus on in these amazing shots was a patch of thinning hair above my right temple where my part begins. “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!?!,” I screamed when I first saw the picture. I immediately sprang into action to learn what I could and then do something about it.

GROOMING IN PUBLIC – ACCEPTABLE OR UNACCEPTABLE?

Grooming in public is rarely acceptable. I have always felt this way secretly, but I was recently inspired to publicly declare it after sitting next to a woman who filed her nails and combed her hair onto me throughout our entire 2-hour flight to NYC. At first I tried to talk myself out of my anger and disgust:  “Maybe I’m too sensitive,” I thought as I stared at her nail dust and hairs on my lap. Then I  got on the subway and ran smack into this sign, part of the MTA’s Courtesy Counts campaign. And now that I’ve been 100% vindicated by a public transportation ad, let’s get into specifics…

BELLE MEETS WORLD HOSTS THE SINE QUA NON LAUNCH PARTY

I reached a big milestone as a blogger last week – I hosted an event! As I’ve posted in the recent past (here), Sine Qua Non salons in Chicago chose me and three other local bloggers to be the faces of their new Desperate Measures campaign, as well as to help launch their new Siné line of haircare products – by throwing a party!
