BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

A Style Fail of Epic Proportions

Since I aim to be as genuine as possible in this blog and in what I choose to wear, it is only fair that I share my fashion failures with you, as well. This dress will go down in history as quite possibly the least flattering cut and color-blocking of all time for a woman with hips.

The dress is made of a thick, jersey sweatshirt material, so I already had a layer of thickness working against me when I put on the garment. I should’ve known better! Plus, the color-blocking line falls right at the widest part of my body – making me look bigger than I am!

The pockets fall at the horizontal line, too, adding more bulk to my hips and making the dress look the least flattering when I actually put my hands in them – drawing the line out even further and making me look wider than I will ever be comfortable with. No thanks.

The neckline and bust look bulky and – without side-darts – add width before your eyes even get down to the widest part of my body. Breasts are supposed to be an asset – not a hindrance for letting a piece lie the way it should.

The only time it looked slightly better was when I was turned to the side so the horizontal line looked less wide or from above and behind since the vertical zipper adds the illusion of length. But I won’t be standing like this – pretty much ever.

The glass is half-full though! This detachable neck piece is a keeper and definitely has a place in my jewelry collection! The beads are all clear but different color tulle is stretched over each one to change the color – what a cool detail.

LESSONS LEARNED:

  • Re-sale shops are the best, but just because something looks cool and costs $19, doesn’t mean it will look any better on you when you get it home. If it didn’t feel right in the dressing room, it won’t feel right later.
  • You win some, and you lose some – and that’s okay – I don’t sweat it or let it get me down because I am who I am and I’m shaped the way I’m shaped.
  • It’s a really cool dress, and on the right body type, will look really great with boots for fall or in winter with tights. I’ll be passing it along to one of my friends who I know will look great in it.
