BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

Weekend Girl Time – Black and Blue

This skirt is made of neoprene (Gracia, purchased on MyHabit), and I love the way the color pops against an all black outfit. The only other color I chose to bring into the mix was my red lipstick so that my face stood out just a bit but didn’t compete with the skirt too much.

This Saturday was a total solo girl’s day – complete with a manicure, shopping and brunch. I wanted to look fabulous while doing all of my favorite things, so a furry vest, high heels, and a flirty skirt were my go-to pieces. Red lipstick and a good book were the best accessories. This whole look cost less than $200.

This vest (by Skaist Taylor, another label by the ladies who started the now defunct Juicy Couture), is from the collection that Neiman Marcus did in collaboration with Target last year, highlighting up & coming and long-standing labels alike – the collaboration didn’t do very well in stores, but I fell in love with this faux-furry creation and bought it on sale for under $50.

These boots are from the Altuzarra for Target collection. That’s right folks! These fancy puppies are also from Target and were just under $70 — since they are from one of the specialty collections, they are well-made and of good quality materials but I definitely will be gentle with them so they last for a long time.

My favorite fall nailpolish is this deep purple Marc Jacobs Hi-Shine Laquer in ‘Secret Love’. My sister gave it to me for my birthday, and I can’t get enough!

Last week was Chicago’s Fashion Week. I chose to go to the shopping event that featured Chicago-based designers because I love to find interesting pieces that are locally made and highlight them on this blog. I found this amazing wrap skirt with a bubble hem by Laura Takataka. I can’t wait to wear it and write about it. I’ll show a closer look then but the print on the fabric is of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color map. The Pantone Instagram account is one of my favorites to follow – check it out if you like all that’s colorful!

This memoir by Grace Coddington is so much fun to read. It’s filled with her illustrations and gives you an inside look into life at Vogue. She is Anna Wintour’s right-hand, and I was first introduced to her while watching The September Issue. I sat in a french bistro with a mimosa (or two) while I read it!

Every now and then, you need to look after yourself and have a day filled with things you love to do. Leave your pets and your significant others at home and go play on your own in style!
