BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

Feeling Preppy

While I usually save my out-there outfits for the weekends, on this particular Saturday, I was feeling a little preppy. I pulled out one of my work-week staples – the white oxford button-up shirt – to add some polish to a casual look for fall.

I didn’t completely abandon the flair I like to have in everything I wear, though. I added a little style by exposing the cuffs and tails under the sweater, as well as pulling the collar up so it showed under the chunky turtleneck (GAP).

See how it glows! While I really think this is just a need to graduate to a big-girl camera, it certainly worked in my favor to have a foggy iPhone lens that day – the white shirt really pops against the navy!

It’s no accident that I also chose this shirt (BCBG, purchased at Nordstrom Rack) for its tunic length. I love these jeans (Naem LA), but they’ve always been a little tight around the thighs, so I’ll usually pair a longer top that covers that right up when I wear them.

As for the differing sleeve lengths, I thought it would look interesting to cuff the jacket (Kenneth Cole, purchased on MyHabit) to expose the white shirt even while I was wearing a coat. Plus the double cuffs mimicked each other a bit, too.

A monochrome look is definitely one of my favorites. It can be quite slimming, especially when your outerwear is also in the same palette as the outfit. I like to break up the monotony by either adding a complementary pop of color like this orange bag, or by matching accents like the matte gold hardware on the jacket, boots (MIchael Kors, purchased at DSW) and handbag (Kate Spade NY).

Happy Weekend!
