An LA-meets-Chicago shopping event, a new blogger community, an obsession-worthy necklace, a fun fragrance, a designer introduction, and an awesome app to organize your closet. What a fun week for style!
I’ve created a monster with the white button-up oxford shirt! I’ve been wearing one in so many different ways over the last few days since I first tried it under the chunky wool sweater in my last “Feeling Preppy” post. You’ll probably see it show up a few more times over the coming days and weeks – I can’t get enough…can you tell I go through fads (read: obsessions)???
This is the outfit I sported for the Christian Siriano event (far below) – which centered around the gorgeous pink necklace I purchased at the W Lakeshore Retail Therapy event (directly below). I wanted to go for a clean, and polished yet punky vibe, so I stuck with a neutral color palette to set against the pink accessories. And I grabbed all my classic pieces to put together a Parisian-meets-Audrey Hepburn look.
While attending the Retail Therapy event at the W Lakeshore Hotel, I met so many amazing people. First, Michelle of M Dot Design, who I’ll be meeting up with an visiting her studio in LA this week! She makes her own designs in LA, and carries jewelry of the same vein by designers like Coral and Stone, who made this amazing hand-dipped ombre fringe necklace. I’m obsessed with it, and have been wearing it almost everyday for the last week!
Second, I learned about the Windy City Blogger Collective – a community of young women who love to blog about style, beauty, decor, DIY and everything we all think is fun in this life. How exciting to join this group of women. I’m so excited to become a member!
Another highlight of the week was an invite to the launch of Christian Siriano’s new fragrance, Silhouette. The lovely scent was accompanied by racks of his gorgeous clothes…if only my bank account wasn’t drained from spending all my pennies on sparkly Halloween decorations this month. But I got to meet Christian, which was so exciting!
I mixed THREE different lipsticks to get a color that matched the necklace and scarf. The base was a pinkish, light wine (PLA Beauty, More Wine Matte) – but it was a little too red, so I followed it with a creamy bright pink (MAC, Girl About Town) – but that was a little too bright, so I took a chance did a little swipe of a dark wine color (PLA Beauty, Damsel) to add depth – and that was the ticket!
As for my color-blocked shoe choice (Calvin Klein, purchased on MyHabit) – it was absolutely linked to the black and white color block of the outfit, and the light trench (Kenneth Cole, purchased on MyHabit) matched the front suede panel of the shoes, while the black patent handbag (vintage, purchased at A touch of Vintage, Logan Square) matched the shiny heel at the back of the boot.
I forgot I had this pink and black scarf that I received as a gift when I worked in a salon in New York City. Cashmere plus the perfect shade of pink to match the necklace made it the obvious choice for the outerwear layer of the look. I’m so glad I rediscovered this piece by Yoana Baraschi.
And the cherry on top to this stylish week was when my sister told me about this app – called Stylebook – it’s basically the closet organizer that Cher from Clueless had – realized. I couldn’t be more excited to photograph every item in my closet, save my looks, my inspiration, get suggestions and even keep track of what I wore, when! HOLY CRAP, I’m so excited – stay tuned to see how it goes!
Until next week’s style adventures!
