BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

Powder Blue and Other Trends

This look was inspired by several trends I’ve been following for a while but wasn’t ready to try until now, including powder blue, mules, slouchy boyfriend jeans and layering long sleeves under crop tops. I mean, why not try them all at once?!

The street style inspiration behind my look comes from from several blogs and sites I follow and admire. But whenever I do try trends, I always make sure to add my own personal touch to the look so that I can call it my own and not a magazine’s. For this outfit, I chose a contrasting color (PINK!) for my lips and my handbag to set off the blues and the various textures and patterns.

I love mixing prints and patterns when they are in the same color palette. You can’t tell from far away, but this long sleeve button down shirt has a mini check to accent the navy stripes of the crop top.

Another thing you can’t tell is that the crop top is made of denim – an added bonus because it matched the dark denim jeans in both color and texture. Plus, the heavy fabric made the shape a little bulkier which meant there was the extra room to fit the button down top under it!

Oh, and if it wasn’t obvious, the light blue mules and long sleeve top were intended to match and also to make it clear that I was wearing such a light color in such cold weather on purpose!

Who am I kidding? It’s fall here in Chicago! It may be sunny out but it’s cold as hell, and I needed a coat to top off the look.

I recently found these at Aldo on the SUPER-DUPER sale rack – there’s an outlet right by one of my train stops – and I’m talking $20 sale rack. I am perfectly comfortable giving any trend a try – within reason – but when I do try it, I never pay full price for it and I usually try to get it for the lowest amount that I can.

I’ve recently had to remind myself to SMILE. Not because I’m sad, but because I’ve been studying fashion blogging so intensely. I’m finding that it’s very easy to lose sight of what is most important to me and what I set out to convey as my personal brand – there are a lot of women out there selling unattainable lifestyles without smiles and without being genuine. That’s not me! I have to remember that a smile is the best accessory and that my mission is to express myself and hopefully to inspire a few wonderful women and friends along the way.

XOXO,

Belle
