BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

My Week in Style – Part 1 with Style Seat

This past week I attended two fun beauty events, won a raffle, met more wonderful bloggers, and wore white after Labor Day with extreme gusto. I’d say it was a style success – so much so, that I’ll have to cover it in two parts!

This is one of my favorite summer dresses that I bought at Cary Lane in San Francisco – a store that sells only samples – so it’s (nearly) one of a kind – unique yet aligned to this summer’s white dress trend. You can read all about it on my original post from last season!

I like to pair it with these leather-striped leggings for edge and warmth. Add a jacket to the look, and this summer dress turns into a whimsical fall/winter piece.

These shoes! You won’t believe this, but they are KIM KARDASHIAN for Bebe. That’s right, I said Kim Kardashian for Bebe. I bought them at my standby resale shop, Crossroads Trading Co. I’d had my eye on them for a while, and I guess I was the only one – they went down to half price and I got them for under $20, brand new and unworn. They’ve been well-loved by me since then. I wear them in the fall and winter when I need very fancy black shoes with a modern twist. I love the chain mail band and the star details, plus, the mega-lace-ups and fancy stitching….well, let’s just say, they may be cheesy but they are among my favorites of all time.

I paired the silver epaulette jacket (H&M) with this look for two reasons. First, the silver beading matched the silver hardware on the boots. And second, the high-arched cut of the jacket hem in the back would highlight the train of the dress. The earrings (brand unknown) I chose for similar reasons in that the pearls would match the white color of the dress and the silver posts matched the rest of the silver hardware I’d picked out.

STYLE SEAT CHICAGO LAUNCH

Style Seat just launched here in Chicago, and I joined the celebration this week at Y Bar with 100 or so other bloggers and beauty-lovers. I can’t wait to give the app a try to find nail, massage, and hair appointments in the city, especially when I’m in a pinch. Use this app to find and book beauty and wellness professionals near you in Chicago, NY, DC, Atlanta and Los Angeles!

I went by DryBar for a blow out before the event – with tip, the blow dry here costs $50 – not something I can afford weekly, but definitely something I will splurge on for events. Especially because I wanted big Marilyn Monroe hair!

I’d never been to Y Bar before, so it was fun to see a new place and to be surrounded by so many well-dressed women – dancing!

And the goodie bag! It’s a really good one full of awesome hair products that I can’t wait to try and a beautiful nail polish I’ve already tried for my manicure this week!

It was a chilly and windy night – my train kept blowing up, which I found terribly amusing as you can see. Before I left the house, I threw a simple black coat (Uniqlo) and my floppy hat (MyHabit) on to make the look complete when I was out walking on the street. I liked that the white train peaked out of the back of the coat so that people might wonder what was under it!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of My Week in Style! I’ll share all about my experience meeting the fabulous Laurie Leopold of 312beauty.com. We talked style, local beauty and the relaunch of her blog over a lovely juice in Logan Square. Coming up next!

XOXO,

Belle
