Hey y’all! I haven’t taken a moment to do a Behind the Scenes post in a while but now that the holidays are past, it’s time to settle down and let you know what’s really been going on in life! Just like you, I have been busy – who hasn’t?! That’s how I like it!
First things first – I could really use your help in filling out my reader survey. This blog is so deeply important to me and even more important is you and what you want to read. I know I’ve struggled over the years to find a cohesive voice and subject matter, but I think I’m finally getting there (I’ve always been a late bloomer!). I can’t do it without you though so scroll to the end of this to fill it out!
Onto life behind the scenes now!
More Beauty Content Coming
I’ve had a terrible flu for over a week now and am finally on the mend. The other night I was so ready to leave the house after being cooped up for a week, so I went to my happy place – Sephora (Other happy place, Target). Every now and then you’ve gotta treat yourself, especially when you’ve been really down. For me, that’s usually some form of shopping!
It’s been a while since I went makeup shopping and there is so much new stuff out there to be trying and learning. Scoping out and buying some new things is especially important since I want to up my beauty content game here on the blog this year. Coming soon will be a lesson in contouring and some new eyeshadow looks I think. And video!! I’m going all in on video.
Charleston + A Big Life Change
We spent two weeks in Charleston in December, and it’s looking like we’ll be there a lot more over the course of 2018. Evan’s band (Jump, Little Children) is getting back together, recording an album, making a music video and doing a few tours. It’s going to be a major life change for us because this will be his full-time job now. Here’s a pic from their recent NYE shows at Charleston Music Hall!
Charleston is one of my favorite shopping cities, actually! If you were watching my Instagram stories (would love for you to follow along!), I did a little shopping guide and got a great response, so here are some of my faves below:
- Best Coffee – G&M Fast and French – Simple french fare, great lunch specials. Caffeine abounds!
- Best Frozen Rosé while You Shop + Co-Working Space – The Skinny Dip – Preppy clothes and lots of pink stuff. Cute little porch upstairs in back to enjoy your rosé
- Best Accessories – The Finicky Filly – Their earring selection can’t be beat!
- Best Date Night – Edmund’s Oast – Sit at the Chef’s Table! Not to be missed!
- Best Happy Hour + Seafood – The Darling Oyster Bar – Oyster shooters are great!
- Best Local Crafts – Charleston City Market and Charleston Farmer’s Market – I head here for spices and sauces!
- Best Lunch – Minero – Burritos and Margaritas – need I say more?
Too Much Travel
At the end of 2017 I hit my breaking point. I love traveling, but it’s just been too much since May of last year. It finally caught up with me in December though, and that’s why I got really sick. But I don’t want to complain too much. I count my lucky stars that I get the opportunity to travel the country for work (and that I have a job). Oh and I can’t forget there was our trip to Mexico to get married, of course! Below are pics from San Francisco, Mexico, Denver, Dallas, and Chicago. I’ve also been to LA, San Jose, NY and Charlotte in the last couple months, too!
Outfits You Won’t See on the Blog
I’ve been thinking about doing a Daily Looks thread on the blog. It would basically be a page where I’d post my outfit or my makeup on any given day. They wouldn’t be full blog posts but just a glimpse into what I actually put on and how/why I put it together. Would you like that? Here are some examples of simple looks I wore to work or out for a date night that you wouldn’t ever see (some you might’ve seen on social media I guess).
READER SURVEY
Okay here it is. My reader survey! Anyone visiting this blog – whether every day or once a year – is welcome to fill this out. If you don’t come often, maybe it’s because I’m not giving you what you want or need. So tell me! If you do come often, THANK YOU. Help me get better so I can keep busting my butt to give you great hair, simple makeup and affordable style.
Thank you thank you in advance for filling it out, and please be kind – I read every word and have a big heart!
