BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

SLIM DOWN – PUT A BELT ON IT

If you were to ask me what my number one piece of style advice is, it would be to put a belt on it. But since you didn’t ask me, I’m still gonna tell you because this is my blog…so put a belt on it, bitch! This one trick is an instant visual slimmer. Check out these before and after pics to see what I mean…

I rented this beautifully structured blazer from Rent the Runway – it’s truly unique. But since the ruffled sleeves fall right at my narrowest part – my waist – they added width right in the area I usually rely on to make me look smaller. Suddenly I looked wider than I wanted from shoulders to hips. NO THANKS.

So I grabbed for the number one savior of all my style woes – a belt. It adds instant definition, even to blazers! Look at the photo above with the blazer opened. Then look at the next photo with the belt. Instant shape and visual weight loss. I do this with dresses, with skirts and tops, and with jeans and tunics. It makes me feel like I added a little personal style to any look but most importantly, it draws your attention to my waist – not my wider hips. Genius. It’s also a great way to pull together an outfit by matching one to your shoes, a handbag or even your pants. In case I’ve not made myself clear…put a belt on it and fast.

P.S. A few quick words on the shoes and bag. I got these booties for $99 at a random shoe liquidator store in Bristol, TN (where is that?!). They are Donald J. Pliner and usually in the thousands range. A gal’s gotta know a steal when she sees it. As for the bag, another RTR gem by Zac Posen. I’ve now rented this Eartha bag in 3 different styles and colors. I think it is so ladylike and unique and for a mid-level price point, it is a really well-made bag. Plus, it’s not everyday you find taupe shoes to match a taupe bag…ah, the little things that matter to an OCD dresser such as myself.
