Hey ladies and gents! Just a quick note to let you each reading know how much I appreciate you – thank you so much for being on this journey with me! Okay – do you ever just stumble upon something so lovely and amazing that you just can’t believe your fashion luck?! If you’re not a shopping nerd like me then the answer is likely a big fat NO, but for me it happens sometimes and it is pretty freakin’ exciting. On my last trip to New York, I found a store I’d never been to before called & Other Stories. It’s a Los Angeles, Paris and Stockholm atelier that works with designers around the world. And it’s affordable. JACKPOT.
Every time I travel I like to buy one look so that I can shoot it for the blog and also have something that helps me remember the trip. It’s my own version of a souvenir, and this sheer striped two-piece set from & Other Stories fit the bill. The store is located on Fifth and 42nd, has two floors and an amazingly eclectic collection of clothing, shoes, bags and accessories.
This set comes in black, burgundy and teal, which I liked best with my skin tone. It was also $120 total. This is a steal because you can wear the pieces together or separately. That’s THREE outfits for the price of one, y’all! I chose to put a camisole underneath the sheer top but you could also go for the gold and skip the cami and show off your bra like their photos (below). I don’t have the balls for that at this time, but I think it looks pretty fabulous. I’m really drawn to two-piece sets because it makes you feel like you’re bucking the dress tradition while still basically wearing a dress. I like to rebel!
When you wear stripes, I recommend pairing them with a geometric shoe like these to play off of the hard lines. If I was wearing a curvy more girly shoe with this look, I’m not sure it would work well – they wouldn’t be in harmony. And the clutch is an oldie but a goodie from Banana Republic that matches the croc heel on the shoes quite perfectly. These shoes are a Sam Edelman special that I snagged on sale on my recent Charleston trip – again, style souvenirs are such a great way to recall a memory!
This particular New York trip where I snagged this outfit was one for the history books. Though I lived in NY for over 12 years, it still throws me for a loop every time I visit again. The Big Apple ain’t easy. On this particular trip my flight back to ATL got cancelled three times and I had to stay a full week longer than expected. When you think you’re going home and you can’t, you want nothing more than to be at home, so I really struggled to enjoy NY. But I also look back on it now and think about how I can find things there that I couldn’t find where I live now – like this & Other Stories set. That adventure and exposure to new stuff is pretty refreshing and I can’t deny that!
P.S. You can also find & Other Stories online – they’ve got so many cute things for summer. In fact – confession – I’m back in NY for work this week and I’m definitely making a stop in there while I’m here to pick up a few new styles.
