BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

LESSON LEARNED – MY #1 TRAVEL STYLE PRO-TIP

I wrote a very thorough post last year on my thoughts around travel style – both what to pack and how to wear it. My advice was complicated, exhausting and over-thought for anyone other than those who obsess over every single outfit, every single day. In truth, my complicated clothing choices were taking up too much of my precious vacation time. Since then I’ve learned a lot more about my ‘traveling self’ and how to dress efficiently and stylishly while away from home. It all boils down to one, simple travel style pro-tip…

HOW TO CHOOSE AN ENGAGEMENT RING TOGETHER

I recently experienced the joy of getting engaged.  It’s a moment you can’t help but dream about your entire life and when it actually happened, it was surreal and wonderful and exciting and right – all of those things I’d hoped for. And guess what?! I knew it was coming because we decided to choose an engagement ring together. Trust me – that made it no less special.

AIRLINE STYLE

When I travelled to France earlier this year, I remember being in the airport and thinking how disappointed I always am to see people in their worst state – decked out in pajamas in the name of comfort while flying (overrated). I am a firm believer that one should dress her best when travelling, but alas I am a party of one when it comes to this belief. Until that magical night in the international terminal security line when time stood still and in walked the Etihad Airways flight crew. I’ve never seen anything like it. Today let’s talk about airline style!

MONOCHROMATIC STYLE – INSTANT CHIC AND CONFIDENCE!

Monochromatic dressing is one of the best and easiest ways to look instantly chic and to exude confidence. Whenever I don’t know what to wear to a social event, or am feeling insecure about my body, or have an important presentation at work, I will don the same color from head to toe. It makes me feel put-together, slim and powerful. And anyone can do it! Read on for my tips on how to dress in monochromatic style.

GROOMING IN PUBLIC – ACCEPTABLE OR UNACCEPTABLE?

Grooming in public is rarely acceptable. I have always felt this way secretly, but I was recently inspired to publicly declare it after sitting next to a woman who filed her nails and combed her hair onto me throughout our entire 2-hour flight to NYC. At first I tried to talk myself out of my anger and disgust:  “Maybe I’m too sensitive,” I thought as I stared at her nail dust and hairs on my lap. Then I  got on the subway and ran smack into this sign, part of the MTA’s Courtesy Counts campaign. And now that I’ve been 100% vindicated by a public transportation ad, let’s get into specifics…

TRENDS AT WORK – SHOULD YOU OR SHOULDN’T YOU?

On my recent business trip to New York, I conducted a style experiment by wearing a jumpsuit to work. I wanted to see if I could pull off this uber-trend in my uber-corporate environment. Plus, I had a drinks date with another blogger that night, so I needed a stylish look that would translate quickly and easily from office to bar. I think it worked in this case, but ultimately my advice to you if you want to go trendy at work is – know your audience, use your judgment and adapt the trend to mimic your work-appropriate wardrobe.
